The news about this development was broken by Guilherme Rambo at 9to5Mac and Steve Troughton-Smith. Both of them have said that the new apps will be Marzipan applications, much like Apple News app on the Mac. These apps will share an overarching design and codebase with their iOS counterparts that are used on the iPhone and iPad. It has been reported that the Music app will focus on offering a home for the Apple Music service away from iTunes. The new TV app will be a place for Apple’s upcoming new service, Apple TV Plus. And needless to say, the Podcasts app will get podcasts. The Books app, which is already on macOS, will also be getting a similar Marzipan redesign that will make it more like the updated app that was released by Apple last year, along with iOS 12.

— Steve Troughton-Smith (@stroughtonsmith) April 5, 2019 It would be safe to assume that like Book Store, Apple would soon be breaking out the music, TV & movie and podcast portions of the iTunes store into respective apps too. However, as of now, there isn’t too much information available about them being broken into individual apps. We should add here that the move makes sense on Apple’s part ad iTunes is a very old software, and many of its users are not too fond of it. By breaking it up, Apple would be able to create apps that are not bloated and come with modern designs. And needless to say, a lot of users are really looking forward to this. With this, the technology giant is looking to push code-base Marzipan apps in a big way on macOS. And to begin with, it has chosen one among the clunkiest apps to show developers how much beneficial it can be. It is also worth mentioning that macOS will be put in line with iOS with this move, as the latter has dedicated apps for various purposes for ages now. However, iTunes is not dying so soon. The app will stick around for a while as it is the only way to sync and interact with iPod and other iOS devices.
